Execution success is only the first check

If the workbook still needs extensive cleanup, the tool has moved the work rather than removed it. Judge the reviewed output you can actually use.

In ParseMill, select an extracted invoice field to inspect its source, correct the value and export the reviewed workbook. Try your own invoices as well as the interactive sample. Compare upload, checking and correction time with your current way of building the same spreadsheet.

Create a short release checklist for the recipient’s task. It should cover expected source coverage, required fields, row identity, unresolved exceptions and evidence access. A workbook that opens successfully still needs these checks before it becomes an operational input.

Compare two synthetic outcomes

CheckRun ARun B
Job statusCompletedCompleted
Expected records20 expected; 18 returned20 expected; 20 returned
Required unitsTwo silently blankOne explicitly unresolved
Source referencesWrong page for three rowsAll reviewed references resolve
Business dispositionNeeds repairLimited use with stated exception

This invented comparison does not claim Run B is universally acceptable. Its disposition depends on whether the unresolved unit blocks the intended task. The point is that identical job statuses can lead to different, evidence-based use decisions.

UK Government: Data Quality Framework frames quality around fitness for purpose. Use that distinction to decide whether the output supports the actual workflow.

Create separate status fields

  1. Record technical completion, including failed pages or warnings returned by the process. Preserve the original output before correction.
  2. Compare the output with expected source coverage and required fields. Count missing, incorrect and unresolved items separately.
  3. Review row associations and source references for the defined scope. Document manual corrections and their verification.
  4. Assign a business status such as accepted for stated use, accepted with explicit limits, or held for repair. Name the output revision and responsible reviewer.

Microsoft: Document extraction accuracy and confidence discusses human review alongside extraction confidence. A service response or confidence score should be considered evidence for review, not a substitute for your acceptance criteria.

Make partial usefulness visible

An output can be useful for locating documents while unsuitable for numeric analysis. State that limited purpose rather than using an unqualified approved label. Conversely, do not discard a recoverable output merely because one nonessential field is unresolved; record the limitation and let the workflow owner decide its impact.

Avoid hiding failed documents from the report of completed jobs. Keep a denominator of all attempted inputs so technical failures and empty outputs remain visible in performance summaries.

Check the recipient’s decision

For the fixture, both jobs completed technically. Run A needs repair because records and references are missing or wrong. Run B requires an explicit decision about the unresolved unit before use. The release record should explain that distinction without relying on internal parser terminology.

When evaluating ParseMill, measure whether its output can complete your intended register task after review. Track technical completion, correction work and usable outcomes separately so you can make a practical adoption decision.
