Separate content from workbook features

Check the format your recipient actually uses so a successful download is also a successful handoff.

ParseMill exports reviewed invoices to Excel with separate summaries, line items, sources and review status. You can import an XLSX or CSV template and save a client setup. Run a real invoice through to the final workbook and check it in the application that receives your work.

Do not treat a formatting difference as a value error, or a missing evidence sheet as harmless formatting. Review raw values, displayed values and supporting structure as separate categories.

Use a side-by-side comparison card

This synthetic card describes an agreed handoff, not a promise that any particular exporter provides every feature. If an evidence sheet is absent from the CSV package, supply an authorized companion manifest or state that the package is incomplete for review.

Microsoft: Import or export text and CSV explains text export behavior and the limitations involved when workbook data is saved in text formats. Check the actual exported scope rather than assuming every worksheet is included.

Compare equivalent representations

  1. Identify the same reviewed source revision and record population in both exports. Map corresponding columns by meaning and name.
  2. Parse the CSV with declared encoding, delimiter and types. Inspect workbook stored values separately from displayed number formats.
  3. Compare stable record keys, raw strings, qualifiers, units and missing states. Review evidence references and supporting files as their own checklist.
  4. Document intentional differences and investigate unexplained ones. Reopen both formats in the actual receiving applications before release.

RFC 4180: Common CSV format describes the common CSV field format. It does not provide workbook sheet structure or spreadsheet-specific display metadata, so those need another representation when required.

Watch apparent equality and apparent differences

A workbook may display 42.6 while a raw CSV string is 42.60. That can be an intentional numeric display difference, but it is a loss if the raw source presentation was required and no raw field remains. Similarly, a CSV identifier can look correct in a text editor and lose zeros when opened automatically.

A workbook’s hyperlink label may display a friendly name while the CSV contains a URL string. Verify the destination and source version rather than comparing only visible labels.

Accept the agreed package

For the fixture, both formats preserve record identity and raw evidence, while each provides review notes through its declared mechanism. Any unsupported workbook feature has a documented alternative or a visible limitation. The comparison should explain differences rather than hide them.

For the current ParseMill invoice offer, test the downloaded XLSX workbook in the recipient’s application. If you later save a CSV version, compare it separately against the workbook, including any companion evidence needed. The interactive sample’s CSV downloads do not make invoice-batch CSV export an included feature.
